Chairman: Iain MacLean, Director : Subsidence and Surveying Services at Davies Group

A Task Force meeting was held at the BRE on Wednesday 15 April attended by the following: -

Iain MacLean - Davies Group Limited (Chairman)
Robert Camilleri - Profix Construction Limited
Alan Cripps - RICS
Neil Foster - Assured Building Solution Limited
John Hogg - Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance
David Rosenfeld - Redrose Property Services Limited

The group discussed the draft of the document - A Practical Guide to the Procurement of Subsidence Claims Handling and Related Services - and various amendments and additions to the text were suggested, as well as presentation ideas to make it a more user friendly document.

The meeting also discussed procurement and supplier management issues, particularly in the current difficult market conditions and the general consensus was that following the publication of the above Guide it would be appropriate to progress to a task of producing a practical guide to the management of subsidence claim handling and related services, as a natural follow-on from the above document.

It is hoped to have all work finalised on the draft Guide before the Chairman goes on holiday for the last two weeks in May and certainly to have the published document available on The Subsidence Forum stand at the Post Magazine Subsidence Expo 2009 on 25 June.

Subsequent to the Task Force meeting, a series of e-mails have been exchanged between the Chairman and various members of the Task Force and a further meeting was held at Davies Group Limited`s offices in Stoke on Trent on Tuesday 5 May, attended by Iain MacLean, Robert Camilleri and Neil Foster and it is hoped to have the Guide ready for publication by mid-May.

It is anticipated that a further Task Force meeting will be held in late-June or early July with a view to agree the title and scope of the next Guide to be produced and any new members to the Task Force would be welcomed, particularly those from Insurer`s procurement teams who we feel can give further balance to our discussions.

When the Sub-Group was first established it focussed on a review of payment issues in the UK subsidence industry and produced a document ” Your cheque is in the post”, which highlighted the issues and assessed the possible corrective actions required to address these issues.

Under the Chairmanship of Iain MacLean the Sub-Group has considered the Insurer procurement process, with a view to highlighting the need to consider a wide range of issues - from establishing the key drivers the Insurer wishes to achieve to the need to consider the relationship with sub-suppliers to the potential suppliers.

A draft discussion document ” The Procurement of Subsidence Claims Handling and Related Services” has now been issued and this document was discussed in open forum at The Subsidence Forum training day on Tuesday 30 September. A copy of the draft document for comment can be viewed on the Publications section.
